Did you stay up to see....

the Lunar Eclipse early this morning? Thoughts? Experiences?

Comments (4)

I stepped out at 4:20 this morning for my walk and remembered the lunar eclipse. It's funny, I had planned for a full moon walk down Grand but had to detour because it was all dark from the eclipse. It certainly was stunning. Imagine what the ancients thought of phenomena like this.

I woke up about 1:45 am, jumped out of bed and ran outside, afraid I would miss the eclipse. The moon still shone bright, just the barest hint of the elipse. I went back to sleep and when I woke up again at about 3:15, the eclipse was in full force but the moon was not completely dark. It was lighter on the edges but you could clearly see the shadow of the earth reflected on the moon. What was amazing was the brightness of the stars. Because the moon was dark, the stars shone as bright and clear as the dawn of time. I clicked my heels, jumped on my broom and flew over the moon.

I couldn't sleep at all last night (I'm hearing that from a lot of people) and woke up for about the third time at 3am. I remembered the eclipse, put on my glasses, looked out the window and all I could see were stars. I sort of mumbled, "whatever" and went back to bed. Thanks Suza, now I know why the stars were so bright!

I loved your last line Suza, I actually visualized you doing just that. I missed the whole show. I normally catch all these types of events, but I got lazy, for the getting ready for our return to Ojai and lack of sleep, I chose to sleep through it. I like the pics-thanks.

Have you ever, when moving, gone through the ritual of the 'last time I do this, the last time I do that'. For example, I mowed our lawn, for the last time, before we leave. Instead of rushing through these 'chores', I savour them, for they, to me represent a piece of what I've been doing for a long period of time. I had my last run, last bike ride. Alyeska and I had our last visit to Pennypack Park today, after dropping off our last library book. On our way to the park, we stopped so Miss. Aly could say her last goodbye to her friend. This morning was my last walk about with my cup of coffee, and savored every little thing I noticed as I passed through the neighborhoods.

My excitement on returning to Ojai is clearly tempered by my positive feelings for this big city and how much I realize I'm going to miss it's character, beauty, and all the best Philly Cheese Steak sandwiches served all over place.
