Burning Man Burned Early!

by Tyler Suchman on August 28, 2007

burning man burned early
Holy cow, the Burning Man was expected to burn on Saturday, but a “San Francisco performance artist” got to it early.

Many festival-goers who were awake watching Tuesday’s lunar eclipse said they saw a man deliberately ignite the figure at about 3 a.m., Grace said. “It was in plain sight of many people,” she said. “Everyone is looking at it this morning, this big black figure in the sky and that wasn’t supposed to burn, saying, ‘Now what do we do?’”

I’m looking forward to first-person accounts from OBOP and other Ojaians who went to the Burn…

Yea! Good for him. When better than during a total eclipse of the moon to burn the man. put a little honesty back into the whole affair. I’ve watched the rules piled onto what was once an artists gathering for years. Now it’s almost a police state where people go to look and be looked at, not much real art left. Plenty of rules though. An injection of anarchy was required. I’m sure they’ll find something to burn on Saturday.

If they can’t pull together and build a new man by Saturday, they shouldn’t be there.

They’ve booked this guy on arson charges. Irony anyone? If they allow this man to be prosecuted, the whole burning man thing should just roll up its’ tents and retire. Cancel all subsequent events. There’s an opportunity here to do something extraordinary. Ask for assistance from all of the participants to build something together rather than relying on the increasingly authoritarian administration to provide them with a man to burn. Of course, that would involve some real cooperation and would probably cut into time posing and taking ecstasy.

Wow, they arrested the guy! $25,000 bail.
“Burning Man” truly is not what it is billed as. What a joke.

from msnbc:
The approximately 40-foot-tall wood and neon structure was supposed to go up in flames in the ceremonial climax of the weeklong annual event.
Wood and neon? they’re burning neon?

spk August 29, 2007 at 3:18 pm

Neon is a noble gas so it wouldn’t have burned at that temperature. However, the plastic tubing that contains the neon would have been pretty bad to burn.

Doesnt “Burning Man ” promote homosexuality? If it does ,please remove this post.

Aleister Crowley August 29, 2007 at 5:05 pm

Oh Victoria, Burning Man goes way beyond homosexuality. Yes, your silly little pervo repulican leaders would blush and hide their eyes if they saw just a glimmer of the monstrous activities that go on at that festival of depravity. I am surprised that Larry Craig isn’t there right now. Any idea how many porto potties they got there? Maybe 2 thousand. Ole Uncle Larry would be in heaven!
Oh, my dear, dear Victoria. The godless acitivities that occur on a regular basis at Burning Man would make you shudder. Let me comfort you, please. Poor, poor Victoria, let me be the one to tell you when to shield your eyes. There, there, don’t worry, one day soon, Jesus will come down and take you away from this mess and all the sinners will be left here to continue on sinning. Rapture will be happening shortly, please be patient. Soon, you’ll be up there in heaven, sipping champaigne and eating caviar. You deserve it! Keep you chin up just another decade or two.

Doesn’t “Ojai” condone homosexuality? If it does, please remove this town and replace with Des Moines (just the hetero parts, not the gay parts)

Victoria's sister August 30, 2007 at 1:01 am

Hi, This is Victoria’s sister, Becky. I just want to say sorry and all that about Victoria sneaking out of her room (we keep it locked) and posting on the Ojai Post once again. She has been diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder but refuses to take the Prozac. Normally she just stares at the TV watching Fox News 24/7. Every once in a while, she makes a break for it screaming to all of us family members that we are ‘liberals who hate America and support the tarot-ists’. I just get the heck out of her way when she’s in the manic stage. Anyway, we caught her redhanded so now it’s time to ‘cuff’ her to the bed. Any body know any good exorcists?

This blogs never seems to amaze me. Others that might have a objection to your propaganda you harass us . STOP

evan August 30, 2007 at 3:26 pm

Claire, would you like to try that again? i may not be the only person for whom that made no sense at all. try looking at your words to make sure they go together in a cohesive way before you push “Post”…that seems to work for me.

Claire Kennedy August 30, 2007 at 5:13 pm

Although I appreciate your feedback, you did not answer my question. This is America where people can debate in civil manner. Why do you demonize people who hve different opinions? It’s easier to be civil, peace minded than it is to be caustic.

Grammar Patrol August 30, 2007 at 5:54 pm

Claire, at 2:48 I think you meant to write “ceases to amaze” instead of “seems to amaze.” And you erroneously pluralized blog. And then you seem to have a run-on sentence with an incorrect article and missplaced punctuation. That’s probably why evan was confused. And I think you’re the one being caustic.

Doesn’t one homosexual pretend to be the man and the other pretends to be the woman. How do you know which is which?

Ask Mark Foley or Larry Craig.

Hey man, the democrates have homosexuals too.

Hey man, the democrates have homosexuals too.
That’s fortunate for you, Steve; it doubles your chances of getting lucky.

evan August 31, 2007 at 8:45 am

yes, Steve, yes they do! it proves that one’s sexuality is not a political statement! plus, you don’t hear about homosexual democrats needing to sneak around and get their sex in airport bathrooms, or non-consensually on sleeping co-workers. why is that, do you suppose? (and try to dig deeper than the grand “liberal media” talking point).
also, using homosexuality as an insult doesn’t seem to respect homosexuality either.

Steve Bosell August 31, 2007 at 10:47 am

I’m not a homosexual ! Well then how come it’s ok for democrates to be homosexual but not the republicans? Maybe they were still in the closet or something?

evan August 31, 2007 at 10:54 am

Steve, it’s “Democrats”, not “democrates”.
it’s perfectly okay for Republicans to be homosexual…except to most Republicans. THAT’S the root of the problem: hating gays, and secretly BEING gay.
and if you were homosexual, we’d still need to love and respect you the same as if you’re not. you don’t need to wash your hands of it so vigorously.

spk August 31, 2007 at 11:03 am

Steve, I too love Phil Hendrie, but you have to understand. It is exactly because of the bigoted, intolerant stance of the Republicans against gays and lesbians that there are so many closeted homosexuals that get found out in their party. It forces them underground and into strange situations like Senator Craig’s and many many others. In contrast, the Democrats don’t have a problem with homosexuals and therefore it is okay for gay and lesbian politicians to be out in the open.

Claire Kennedy August 31, 2007 at 1:11 pm

Republicans are not against Homosexuals. Republicans are against their behavior. Its a sin ,nothing more or less. The BIBLE says clearly that its a abomination to human kind.

evan August 31, 2007 at 1:33 pm

oh, so it’s okay to be homosexual as long as you don’t actually BE homosexual. c’mon Claire…you HAVE to recognize that that doesn’t make sense.
oh, but we’re not dealing with sense here…we’re dealing with “sin”. can you please post the verse where the bible “clearly” says that it’s AN abomination to human kind? seriously, i’ve never seen where it clearly states that.

not a fan August 31, 2007 at 4:38 pm

The BIBLE, yes, a great (okay mediocre) work of fiction.
