Many area phones and ATMs are also offline.

credit card machines were down in stores, atm machines down at the banks, cell phones were saying 'all circuits are busy', computers weren't working... I was told there is an RDT towner down?? not sure what that is, but it had cut off certain communications from here all the way up to Santa Cruz. still don't believe in mercury retrograde?

Did you feel a sense of freedom or a sense of panic or possibly indifference? It is certainly strange to lose phone and internet communication abilities. I rely heavily on the internet for my daily communication and work and yet it is nice to have these reprieves from time to time.

The big down side, of course, is the 911 services. I honestly hadn't even thought of that until I read the post above. I even called 911 last week when my daughter was injured at home, and it was good to have that free (aka-socialist) service.

FYI - it looks like The Post has once again scooped OVN

It seems that a backhoe was the culprit. The full story is here:

The VCS has the story under the Ojai subcategory. It was due to a backhoe removing brush for a fire break along 150 near Happy Valley School.

Above, Kenley asked if we felt a sense of freedom, panic or indifference to the loss of these service. I'm not there to feel the impact of this incident. But I do remember how I felt the day after 911. When getting out of bed the next day, the first thing I did was to go outside and listen to the silence of the sky, for as you remember, all air traffic was halted-grounded, except for Bushes family friends, the Bin Ladins(forgive the spelling). The Sacramento skies were still but for some clouds. On any given day, literally hundreds of planes, jets, helicopters can be seen buzzing overhead paced for their schedules.

For the first time in nearly a century, nothing was flying over America but wildlife. At the moment of stepping outside, putting the horror of the day before aside, I felt a connection with my ancestors who traveled by wagons and horse back across this land, looking up to the sky, wondering what lie beyond the horizon, over the next mountain range, across the next forbidding river.

For me, a was a great sense of freedom.

I hate when I miss my typos, so sense I can't fix them, you are on your own. ha.

beautiful observations, Dana...thanks for sharing!
Jessie and i lived in Goleta on 9/11, directly under the SB Airport flight path. i too spent time looking into the still, unbroken sky and listening to the nothing/everything. it was calm and free, and so was i.

thanks Kenley for helping us with that perspective.

On 911 I was living in Ireland. I can remember watching those planes hit the towers on the TV while outside I could see the beautiful waters of the River Shannon. Little did I know that my own world would soon enter a crumbling experience with corruption wherein we lost our house in Ventura, and altogether a half million dollars due to a real estate agent, investor, attorneys and trial court corruption. Three days ago we received our divorce papers and had the final step of our bankruptcy proceedings (mostly due to legal expenses of fighting injustice all the way to the California supreme court, only to find out that justice is a myth here in the U.S. of A.). All is well though. I believe also that from the corruption of the 911 inside government job will arise great good, like a phoenix from the ashes. Even if our world blows up in nuclear smoke, it will be the work of a greater good. The backhoe incident is just another warning sign which we would do well to heed. If a backhoe operator can do this much disruption, what do you think psychopaths like we have running our government could do? Look what they did on 911. In their sick minds, 911 is just a warm up, a chess move in their master plan. As we're waving flags and watching fireworks on July 4th, our corrupt war profiteers are planning another false flag operation and fireworks of a different kind. I thank my lucky stars and good karma to be living here in Ojai with all its blessings but I feel heavy and sad for what others are suffering because of our indifference to the real conditions of the world. Ojai is a shangri-la but it won't be so for long unless we wake up and take action. Well, as they say in Ireland, everyone should "do their bit" and let things be as they are. Thanks to a backhoe operator, I learned a little bit more.

The OVN originally reported that the damage cable was the result of a back hoe on Santa Clara st. Ventura. The VCS reported as I posted above that it occurred at Hwy. 150 near Happy Valley School. I Questioned this and Lenny Roberts of the OVN had it confirmed by an AT&T spokesperson that said it was the Santa Clara Location. For the sake of accuracy and kudos to the OVNs(Lenny/Sondra)for getting it right.

Dennis, I hear you are leading the Ojai 7/4 parade dressed as Harry Potter...

Bullwinkle, true, but it is the Ojai 7/7 parade.
