Poet John Kertis At Bart’s Books This Friday

by Robert Peake on May 1, 2007

Poetry Matters! John Kertis, Poet Laureate Emeritus of Venice (California), will be reading at Bart’s Books this Friday following an open mic portion of the evening starting at 7PM. The theme of the evening is, “Poetry as the Voice of the Earth”, in harmony with the theme of this season’s Ojai Poetry Festival.
For those of you looking to get your regular fix of poetry each month, note that the Outlaw Poets will convene on the first Friday of every month at 7PM from now on (or, at least until it gets cold again).

Robert, as usual you’ve managed to get me curious about poetry. What/who are the Outlaw Poets?!

Congratulations, John, if you’re the John of the Thursday Writers’ Group at Help of Ojai. I haven’t had the privilege of being with you there for awhile but can attest to your wisdom and compassion in the time that I was.

Lisa, you beat me by a minute. Congrats. See the link “until it gets cold again” above. Pehaps you have and it doesn’t answer to who the Outlaw Poets are. If so, I withdraw my suggestion. Ignore the competitive implication; I’m just trying to make a connection.

Settle down you kids!
Bart’s Outlaw Poets is a reading group hosted by Tree Bernstein and Jason Diller at Bart’s Books in Ojai. The format typically includes an open mic followed by featuring a (local?) poet. They were on hiatus all Winter since the reading is held in the courtyard, but are now back in swing on the first Friday of every month starting at 7PM. Come check it out!
