Notes from the Summit

A couple notes from the OV Green Coalition-sponsored Environmental Summit on Saturday, May 12...

Harrison Industries will be providing computer waste pick-up at the Summit next Saturday. Plan on dropping off your computer waste so that it can be recycled. Have you tried to recycle that stuff? It's expensive and hard to find a place that will accept it, so come on down Saturday!

Low-power consumption CHL bulbs will be available and handed out at NO COST, compliments of Steve Bennett's office, and Southern California Edison.

The event is free, starts at 10am at Matilija Auditorium, and features a keynote address by Hunter Lovins, the Time Magazine "Hero Of The Planet". Come on down!

Thank you Ojai Valley News for the recent publicity
on the recently formed green coalition and
participating agencies. It truly is an opportunuty to
demonstrate our willingness to stand out with
sustainable community values. However the city of Ojai and decision makers have much remaining work to do to demonstrate their part, because the only shade of green they show can be found from developers with lots
of cash navigating the process of planning, then a
final nod from city council for the on-going projects
we are seeing here now. Bryant Street Industrial Plan is one of numerous examples of the non-green building of Ojai not living up to its reputation that the mayor so proudly points out. Without protection of the small town quality of life that is deminishing at an alarming rate, the promises being planned for and madedo not carry much substance behind them.

I agree. The priorities ought to be: 1) reform of city politics; 2) greening of a sustainable Ojai. Until we get those priorities straight, the greens will remain weak, putting on a good show with little substance.
