Soma what? It's not a joke is it. I mean I'm thinking Brave New World over here. Soma seems like an unfortunate choice of names.

I didn't finish reading Brave New World - too depressing. I believe (and Wikipedia backs me up - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Somatic) that "Somatic" means "of the body. Huxley didn't coin the term.
Like many healing modalities, I had to try this out to understand it. Thanks for the question - if you were thinking it, chances are other people were too!
