Open Thread: Politics Free Zone

huntington library garden
OK, talk about Ojai - but let's try a politics-free thread (local and otherwise). That means no veiled allusions, no winking comments, no offhand remarks. Don't even write about how nice it is to have a thread without politics. There are plenty of active threads to continue those conversations.

I've been to three yoga classes in the last week at Kira Ryder's Lulu Bandha's Yoga studio on Matilija Ave. I feel great!

Uh...I have nothing to say.

Local band Myridian just hit #10 with their protest song "Gunshots" on Neil Young's website today! Very exciting! Check it out:

I'll do a write-up on them soon.

oops, I hope I didn't break the rules of this thread! But it's so exciting!

I'll change the subject - Tennis Tournament is this weekend - the 107th annual - see you at the Tea Tent!

We have been in the 80s here the last two days-20+degree above normal, loving it.

Alyeska is bugging me to get us back to Ojai, I have to keep telling her I'm not done here yet. I hate breaking her heart. She came home from school via the library with 3 books on Home Schooling saying I've had enough, time to go back to home schooling, it was priceless how she took her stand.

I wish I could watch the Tennis Tournaments.

ahhh...so is Alyeska the daughter of Dana? I am so curious who you two are. I thought you were a couple.

Wired Magazine had a really interesting article this last month on business blogging, transparency in corporate communication and reputation management called The See-Through CEO.

My company (yes, I have a day job, believe it or not) is now offering a turn-key business blogging solution for companies that recognize the importance of communication and reputation management via a single-author or multi-author blog.

Thanks for passing on the link to anyone you think might be interested, Dear Readers!

Yes Suza: Alyeska is my twelve year old daughter, my youngest. She was born in NorCal where her mother and I met. My family was already in Ojai when I was born, so when I brought her down to Ojai for a funeral, she immediately fell in love with the old home town I would always talk about.
She attended Valley Oak Charter and Topa Topa elem. schools in Ojai and misses them both.Let me share with you all what she said to me more than once.It would go like this "Dad, yes Alyeska, you know I love you, yes Alyeska, you know I love Mom more than I love you, yes Alyeska, but I feel safer when I'm with you Dad, yes Alyeska, I don't want to hurt you but I love Mom more than you and I feel safer when I'm with you Dad, you understand dad, yes I do Alyeska. She is so honest and caring. Forgive me for that TMI moment but I'm so lucky to have her and what father doesn't want to talk about their kids. We will be coming back eventually, maybe sooner if personal goals here are reached sooner than planned. Then I'll get to meet more of you then-I know some of you already but look forward to getting know you in person, working on the next project for Ojai.

Really, Dana, who do you know here, where did you live, where did you go to school?

I would like to answer but why are you anonymous, I might know you.

Great reply to Anonymous! So, all along Dana is the father, Alyeska is the daughter. Not at all what I imagined in my writer's mind! Thank you for baring your soul. Anonymous, Reveal Thy Self!

I went more personal than most would, for I wanted to clarify what you asked and give others a clearer mental image that we always fill in of others, also, if you asked I'm sure others thought the same. Just the other day, I received an email by one out there explaining she now knew who I was and gave a great Hi as soon as she figured it out. That was cool, that is Ojai. There is always risks when we decide to open up in a private setting or in this case, a very public one. Usually in public, it is not smart nor advisable, but then I don't make that claim nor do others on my behalf.

Also, I'm not sure in this forum I've ever used an anonymous tag. I can see why it may be prudent, but I decided for here, that if I didn't feel comfortable putting my name to a statement, then I would not proceed with the writing.

good morning. just thought i'd chime in on this one!

Dana was my neighbor while he was living in Ojai, on Drown Street. Dana, I've appreciated your input on the Post and your concern about local issues. After growing up in Ojai I spent many years living in other cities in Calif. For at least 8 of those years I was longing to get back to my motionless valley where the stars are constant and the chainstores are few and far between :) We subscribed to the OVN for years and read it on the front stoop of our flat in San Francisco while I daydreamed about telecommuting and wandering these ancient hills.... If we'd had the Ojai Post back then I would have been on here even more obsessively than I am now!

Dana - so glad you're a part of this online Ojai community. I wish more of my Ojai friends living elsewhere would join in.

Thank you ever so much Leslie for your kind words and agree with your last sentence for other away from home to check in and say hi.
