I made a comment a few weeks ago that the revelation of this Subway opening is a good example of. With Starbucks and Jersey Mike's and now Subway opening, as well as a great Ojai residents looking to Santa Barbera caterers for their private parties, Ojai food service providers have to face the fact that if they are not stepping up to the plate and providing good service people will are going to look elsewhere and spend their money where they know there will be no surprises. Too many times I've heard of people visiting Ojai and walking into a local establishment and being put off by rude service and/or bad food. I went to Howies a few times before I wrote it off my list - it wasn't good food or service and it was expensive. I'm sorry it failed and I'm sorry it's closed - it takes awhile for a business to establish itself. It takes at least a year. Howies didn't last that long. Hats off to Movinos and Feast and Il Giordino for their staying power. It's not easy. good luck to the Oak Tree Bakery.

Demitri you must be joking
about the service. I've had
local owners go out of there way to be nice and
see to everything. You want
a sterile experience, try the Jersey Mike's formula where you get a corporate stamp on your forehead along with the meal.

Maybe I will loose weight if I go on that famous SubWay Sandwich Diet. Who cares if I loose my Soul in the process...

One more thing: Visit www. FactoryFarming.com to see where those fresh sliced chickens, cows and pigs come from. I hope all Ojai Humanitarians and Vegetarians picket this joint. Bad enough we have McDonald's on the border of our beautiful town!

The above comments and pictures strike me as comic and tragic. I wish Shakespeare was with us. She could really come up with some great plays about the Ojai that is being systematically killed, like the meat served at Sub, sub, sub, way, way, way down the food chain.

Now we have a choice in meats: Subway and Jerky Mikes, symbols of a low down Subway subconsciousness.

I get a bad feeling when I pass Jerkeys on my bike. Now I'll have to endure that same feeling on Matilija Street.

Chains are well named. They are chains around the necks of communities and will drag us all to the bottom of the barrel.

I was hoping Ojai would have the guts to stop the stampede to the bottom but it's looking pretty bleak.

The dam has been breached and the five fools on council have no idea of the moral behind the story of the little Dutch boy.

It's so tragic. I doubt that the five fools and their two hired hands have read much of Shakespeare or they couldn't possibly miss the tragedy they are causing.

Their whole show is pretending to know the bottom line which is handed them by their hired hands. They just sign on the dotted line, or easier still, rubber stamp what is put in front of them, after patting themselves on the back and taking credit for money in the bank that would have been there anyway if they did absolutely nothing. In fact, if they did nothing, there would be more money in the bank. They have raised their own salaries six fold and bloated the bureaucracy with two more positions.

The 5 + 2 fools are so funny from a comic point of view. They rival any of the fools in Shakespeare's plays.

And they are so damn tragic, killing a whole town that could help save the world by example.

The hills around Ojai are doing their best to stave off the ravenous cancer of developmental banking which is devouring America and the world. Yet, the puppet show at city hall is positively helping the Trojan horse over the hills.

Lenny Klaif nailed it above. For years he's told the idiots what the score is. But they can't hear. They can't add up anything except predigested balance sheets.

They don't see the blood on the streets of Ojai. Their minds are so narrow a flea could not squeeze through it.

The irony is they think they are open minded. Open to what? Money. Money. Money. I am convinced that is all they are capable of seeing.

The evidence is overwhelming: Frostie, Mallory Way, gravel trucks, water, Jerky Mikes, Subway, Los Arboles, La Armistad, gang violence, Jeff's initiatives, infrastructure collapse, and on and on.

That is just the sins of commission. There all the sins of omission, things that should be done and are not. Fools fiddle while Rome burns and Ojai turns into everything the council says it does not want. Honesty is not their strong suit.

I try but I just can't make the council of 5 + 2 out. Sometimes they show traits like Iago and Richard the III but they are nowhere that smart.

If we had more time, like 20 years, we could sit down with the leadership and empathize with their inner feelings and reason things out calmly but there is no time anymore. We have to lay our cards on the table and tell it like it is.

Ojai is at death's door. It's now or never to save her life.

I've got to assume that the elected council, and that also implies the majority who voted for them, are either extremely ignorant or very devious. Where do they get their information? From the mainstream media and financial advisors? If so, Ojai is doomed.

To save herself, Ojai is going to have to swim against the stream, or wait for the collapse and let nature vomit out the poison.

This is not the time to be nice. Truth must out.

Ojai is a microcosm of what's happening all over. The flood is coming and Ojai thinks its hill position is going to save it. The fire is going to rain from the skies, fool.

I'll play the fool. I'm already known as crackpot and fringe element personified.

If I could preserve the beauty of this town, I'd moon her on Ojai and Signal at high noon or full moon.

Does ranting and raving do any good? No. Patrimoney patriarchy has seen it all before, ever since it raped matriarchy and stole her world and enslaved her children and animals. Ojai is a drop in the money bucket.

This is one drop who is not going to drop into the mushland of moneyism without a swan song.

The Irish love a good wake and I'm 100% Irish. Ojai is on her deathbed but the dying have been known to recover. Saints willing, Ojai will not go the way of Camelot. But if she does, let's party anyway. We can always say we gave it our best shot, of Irish mist. I'd rather die with my boots on than rot away with chains on my neck, eating the rotten food of moneyism and the poisoned drink of terrorism.

Happy Easter everyone. Jesus is She'sus. Jesus is a womam. Mary Magdalene means Mary the Magna Line. She was not Jesus' wife. She was She'sus, the mother of a blood line of consciousness.

According to the fable made up by godfathers, a godfather sacrificed his son and raised him up to save us. Why he would not take on the nasty job himself is not disclosed.

The truth is that the patriarchic godfathers made the whole story up to corner the market on the salvation game, drive the prices up and cash in.

The same game is being played out in Ojai. The names and places have changed. Even Shakespeare has to play second fiddle to the gospel writers.

The true Easter story is that the earth and her people do not need saving by a godfather or his son, or any male god or son. That's a con game. The godfathers are the very ones destroying Ojai and the values of womem, children and the earth, even as they collect dues for promising to save it, a promise they have no intention or ability to do.

A certain council member, not to be named here, took exception to my comparing Frostie to Jesus, falsely assuming that either one of them was an historic personage. That council member missed the point and will no doubt miss my point here.

No matter. The point needs to be made for the record.

Good Friday and Easter are true but not in a fundamentalist fashion. Easter is about us. Jesus is a mythical symbol, derived from the cruel Roman times in which Christianity was born.

The name Jesus itself is a made up name from a Greek alphabet-number system to come out to 888 to make a point. When I say Jesus is She'sus (She's us), I am making a point.

What's the connection between Subway and Easter? Subway is a symbol of a destructive American empire of money addicts for those that have the eyes to see, as the cross was a symbol of what happened to those who crossed Rome.

The gospel writers turned the tables on Rome by co-opting their terrorist symbol (read 911 for the modern version) into the Jesus salvation and resurrection story. It was a brilliant strategy which eventually toppled the Roman empire. Unfortunately the same godfathers co-opted Christianity in turn.

The solution is to reject patriarchy at the root by replacing it with an earth, womam and children value, called for lack of a better word, lovarchy.

Ojai is a beautiful womam symbol. Her name means "moon" in Chumash, the moon having a womam connection with water and the 28 day cycle. Ojai is also a valley like a womam's vulva. The O in Ojai is a womamly circle suggestive of the womb.

Ojai is all set up to set an example of how to save the world through a womam's consciousness. Ojai is like a womam Jesus. Jesus is She'sus, a savioress where salvation is precisely the embracing of a womam's consciousness and value system.

This is anathema, heresy and taboo to the patriarchs at city hall, those with male and female bodies.

They have no idea of what I'm talking about and would burn me at the stake in another age. I expose myself because so much is at stake, Ojai's very life and her chance to help save the earth.

Happy Easter, Ojai. Subway is your Good Friday. Whether a phoenix rises from the ashes like She'sus remains to be seen. Frostie died apparently but he still lives in my heart. The bankers and developers don't think so but then neither did the money changers that She'sus threw out of the temple.

Ojai is being sold out for money like the poor people were in She'sus day. The Jews could have saved their temple from destruction by the Romans in 70 AD if some of them had not sold out to the Romans for gold and allowed a Trojan horse into the walled Jerusalem.

The council could stop the sell off of Mallory Way by declaring it a landmark. They could have stopped the sell off of Frostie in the same way. They could have seen to it that the initiatives got put on the ballot. They will not because at heart they are moneychangers, not lovers of the people.

Life sure is interesting lately. I sure wish Shakespeare or the gospel writers were here. What a story they would write. Imagine, Henry V and She'sus. The Love story of all time. Their union would have done better than Henry VI.

Ojai can do better than Subway. Try a Frostie.

Ojai can do better than Beckerville. Try Mallory Way.

Happy Easter.

Let's get some positive-thinking Secreters to rave up a go-away for the proposed Subway. We need all the help we can get to stop the plasticization of Ojai. Subway? You've got to be kidding. Both tourists and residents come to Ojai to GET AWAY FROM SUBWAY!

Attention:

We need to get the Subway man (their mascot) here before Subway opens up. Let us reveal to the Ojai citizens that Subway has arrived...before they ever open their doors. We need to get the populations attention. I trust that by doing so the public will cry out louder than ever. Think about it. Blasphemy.

I need the suit and I will personally don that outfit and dance at the corner of Montgomery and Ojai Ave with a sign being gloriously displayed stating "SURRENDER OJAI" or anything else someone can muster up.

I tried googling it and also ebay. Nada. Anyone have any ideas on how to get one? I am serious.

Short of stealing one from an outlet, I'm not sure how you can get one. I'm wondering if there are any wardrobe or costume people out there who would be down for the cause. Doesn't look too dificult.

Sean - Trish on Lion St. is a costume designer. I'll kick in $50 towards the cost. Contact Demitri (demitri@peachtreetheatercompany.org) to get in touch with Trish.

I'll match your $50.

My website email is down for the time being. Contact me at oblongman@hotmail.com And I'll throw in the forehead stamp.

Who is Subless and do they still want to do the stunt?

SUBLESS MAN COMING!

If you want to get in touch with me, try my never to be forgotten email address: idontknowjackshit@hotmail.com. I will personally donate $50 and my time to do the stunt.

I will need the following:
The suit (that says "SubLess"), a body guard and one person to film in case there is trouble with the police or angry resident who actually take me as the real Subwan Man. Both the body guard and the video person will keep me from being harassed. I will be able to stay busy doing my thing without having to speak to people.

OK, so far we have $150.00 to help build the suit.

Tonights meeting at City Hall would have been my first really good opportunity to be in suit. I would have first stood on the corner with a sign alerting passerbyers on main street about the meeting and secondly actually attending the meeting. Do you all see how this goes? It is a major visual that absolutely needs to be done!

For further contact please go off this thread and contact me through my email. Please identify yourself so I know you are not setting me up. I have to protect my identity. Jeff is the only person who knows who I am.

Jeff who?
