Now even city hall can eat fresh. I’ve had
local restaurant owners go out of their way to be nice and
see to everything. You want
a sterile experience, try the Jersey Mike’s formula where you get a corporate stamp on your forehead along with the meal.

Just out of the picture is the bed where City Hall and Subway sleep together. Hey, in Ojai, City Hall will sue its own citizens to shut them up from criticizing chains. In most towns, the chains have to foot the bill for that themselves. Go Subway! How about Mickey Ds at the Post Office? We could circle a drive through around the back.

Just wondering what kind of progress Citizens for a Chain-Free Ojai has made. When is their next meeting?

Next Election, Vote for Lenny Klaif! Here’s a preview of his Letter to the OVN’S Editor:
To the Editor:
I was very disheartened to learn that the Subway sandwich chain will be coming to downtown Ojai. While your editorial on the subject in Friday’s paper was incomprehensible, the story by Nao Braverman was quite interesting and informative. David DiTomasio, the operator of the soon to be opened Subway, was quoted as saying that in the past Ojai city officials had discouraged chain stores from opening in the City, but Jersey’s Mikes arrival announced that the rules of the game had changed.
For a dozen or so years, I, along with other residents of the Valley, have asked the City Council to take steps to protect downtown Ojai from an invasion of chain stores. The City Council has done absolutely nothing, except sue Jeff Furchtenicht whose sin was to try to force the Council to act.
The lack of leadership from the Council has shown itself in other areas as well, a response of total silence (with an occassional peep) with respect to the astonomical rate hike being sought by Golden State Water, the rock mining operations on Highway 33, the demise of O-Hi Frosty, and the lack of affordble housing coupled with the recent increase in million dollar per unit housing.
I recognize that many factors are in play in the on-going transformation of Ojai into a playground for the wealthy and corporate interests. But strong leadership could ease the impact and slow the tide. And strong leadership is what we have not gotten from our City Council. How sad what is happening.
Sincerely,
Len Klaif

I have a complete lack of confidence with the current city council’s ability to handle this issue (or any others). It seems obvious that their integrity has been compromised. They do not have Ojai’s best interests in mind. The kindest conclusion is that they are demonstrating complete incompetence. Is there a way to expedite a recall vote?
Ernie: you suck.
