Earth Day!! (and other assorted things to do for peace)

Oak Grove School's annual FREE EarthDay celebration this year is on Sunday April 15th from 11am to 4pm at 220 West Lomita Ave. There will be environmental exhibits, an arts and crafts marketplace, and hands-on art and action activities. Visit the sustainable demonstration gardens, learn about solar energy, and enjoy live entertainment from two stages! Learn about how ForestWatch is protecting our forest and towns from excessive truck traffic on the 33!

This Sunday's a busy day for other actions too:
STOP THE WAR!: VCStopTheWar is holding its second organizing meeting from 3-5pm in the Topping Room of the Foster Library on Main Street in Ventura, to discuss actions-events-organizing to end this war!
OJAI VALLEY WIDE DISCUSSION #2: it’s baaaaack! County Supervisor Steve Bennett hosts the second of three Valley-Wide Discussions from 1:30 – 5:00pm in the Nordhoff High School gym, to discuss as a community such issues as Affordable Housing, Recreation, Disaster Preparedness, Transportation, our Environment, Community Improvement and Connection, and Youth! The first meeting was great, and this one will be better...please consider coming to make your voice heard on issues that properly concern us all!

SATURDAY THE 14TH, CALL CONGRESS!
CLIMATE CRISIS: Saturday is a national call-in day to tell Congress to get serious about climate change! The main message (being called for by many progressive groups) is to cut our carbon by 80% by 2050. (my unborn child will be in his or her early 40’s by then, for some perspective) THEN, Antioch University Los Angeles faculty member Donald Strauss will Present Al Gore’s Slide Show at the Ojai Playhouse at 4:30pm for FREE! Rsvp HERE.

TUESDAY THE 17TH IS TAX DAY!
FUND PEACE: tax day this year is actually Tuesday the 17th. Citizens for Peaceful Resolutions will be at the Oxnard Post Office from 10pm to midnight to let last-minute tax payers (and the press) know how much of our hard-earned dough is being used to build nuclear weapons (hint: it’s enough to give you radiation sickness), and that we believe budgets to be moral documents. Join us!

hey evan - see you at Earth Day and the Ojai Valley Wide Discussion. I'm Table 45 - stop by if you aren't already sitting there!

sure thing! i'm leading table 15, and am excited to do so. i'm very much looking forward to my first Oak Grove Earth Day!

oh yeah: bonus for those who use "alternative transportation" to get to the OVWD, in the form of a raffle! (alternative transportation is anything other than one person in one vehicle.)

evan, NICE photo on the OVN's front page!

THANKS, Lisa! That concert was a blast...very glad that it got a little press. thanks to Rob Clement from the OVN for being there!

i notice (not that it's not been obvious) that the two hottest topics on the Ojai Post are consistently Chain Stores and Truck Traffic. this is immediately noticeable by the fact that those two topics are the only ones big and hot enough to warrant their own resource pages (linked handily at the very top of the Post home page). the Ojai Valley Wide Discussion on Sunday will deal with, among other topics, Transportation, our Environment, and Community Improvement & Connection. while none of these things specifically refer to Chain Stores, i think that issue certainly falls within the scope of "Community Improvement & Connection". and the Truck issue will definitely come up within the Transportation and Environment segments.

the goal of this meeting is not to lobby or solve these two issues specifically, but i do want to illustrate that they fall within the scope. if you're passionate about either or both - and it's clear that many of us are - please attend the OVWD and be a part of the dialogue and action!

Great work Evan. Also, that picture in OVN, I showed it to Alyeska, we thought it precious.

correction: the Chains and Trucks issues are NOT the only topics with dedicated resource pages. i meant that they are the two listed as "Top Stories" at the top of the home page. the resource pages are near the top of the right column. :)
