Dishing Ojai: Sunset Mag Dishes Ojai!

Did you see this month's issue of Sunset magazine? There is a lengthy article about Ojai's locally grown food (interesting given Subway-gate), celebrating local growers, chefs and restaurants. One of my favorite spots, Feast Bistro, gets a mention, along with Boccali's, Auberge, Suzanne's, Bodee's (who gets dinged for slow service, which IMHO hits the nail on the head) and The Ranch House. They also pay a visit to our local wineries, Friend's Ranch and the Farmers' Market. It's a great on-line read, but do pick-up a copy because the photos are gorgeous.

In other news...

Scott Hoffner is leaving Pangea for a private local cooking gig (a sweet deal he says). He cooked a "last supper" for Bill and I last week that was out of this world. We are told that Caleb will be taking his place. Caleb has cooked beside Scott at Pangea in the past and has also sharpened his culinary skills at Movino and Feast.

Rosie is leaving Feast and heading to Ireland to be an exec chef at a bed and breakfast (suddenly Ireland has moved to the top of my vacation list). Mario, who most recently cooked at Iron Pan, will be taking her place to work alongside Susan Coulter in Feast's open kitchen.

Great update Lisa; Rosie did a great job at Feast Bistro - she'll be missed there.

And a downscale shoutout to Giorgio's which makes a darn good sub. Sure, they are down Ojai Ave a bit, but they are a local mom-and-pop that is worthy of our support, and just a short bike ride or walk from downtown.

Subway - feh.

See more references to Ojai in national media at the bottom of the Formula Retail and Restaurant Establishments wiki (in the references section). Other reasons why Ojai is special.
