this moment

a bright sliver of the moon hangs over
the dark shadowy mountains of the
valley of the moon
i stand stone still
watching the first glimmers of dawn
the quarter moon so bright it
almost looks full
the valley below so silent
like the beginning of time
no busy minds...no cars...
only the soft soft hooting of the owl

..

we 'who hoot' back,

magick echo of canyon 'nite'.

s/he returning, joyously,

filling this celestial 'night'!

Suza,
Your poem about the Ojai moon reminded me of one I wrote about the sun while out in our backcountry.
Lanny

"cedar creek camp haiku"

the first tall cedar
to catch the sun is my clock
it works twice a day

aha Lanny
thanks to you
i just this moment
learned the meaning
of haiku

and thank you too
Millenium Twain
limerick, poem, haiku
to the ignorant
it's all the same

I shall attempt to illustrate the differences. Here is a slightly off-beat off-rhyme limerick:

A yogini I know named Francina
At first glance has a quiet demeanor
Then she'll wind like a hose
(a contortionist pose)
While she tucks both her legs in between her.

You should send that to the New Yorker!

I hope other Ojai Poets and Poetesses will be encouraged to post their verses here too!

Guiding Light to Twilight

In the dust once born was

A nature unto us all, love

From thought to day of wrought

Our preexistence see it not?

Our faculties preordained

Our choice been gained

When tears salt the earth

Awaken me upon your hearth

Namaste Dana and Alyeska. Thank you for sharing your lovely "Guiding Light to Twilight" poem, and all your other thougtful posts as well.
