Golden State Water Company - update from the City

The following from City Councilmember Rae Hanstad is elevated from the comments... read the initial post on the rate increase here.

The rate hike proposed by Golden State Water Company will be an agenda item at the Ojai City Council Meeting of Tuesday, February 13, 7:30 PM.

The meeting agenda, staff report, and the City's letter of protest to the Public Utilities Commission should be posted at the City's website by tomorrow. There is also coverage on the GSW increase request on Page A1 of today's OVN.

I encourage concerned citizens to attend the meeting or email comments to me at rhanstad@aol.com.

Thank you.

We learned many background
facts on Golden State Water
Company powerpoint-can be viewed on Channel 10- they are a state monopoly with
ever-expanding customer base. Begs question-why suddenly so active in Ojai Valley.Any plans for big allotment increase to corrispond with development plans?A local home owner's association is located directly over Casistas water mains yet forced to buy Golden State. Dealings resemble murky plot
straight out of "Chinatown"

Just received this from the PUC; it looks like an opportunity to speak directly to the PUC will happen on May 10.

Thank you for writing. I apologize for the delay in responding to your e-mail. I will circulate your comments to the five Commissioners, the assigned administrative law judge, and to the formal correspondence file for this proceeding.

In January 2007 Golden State Water Company filed General Rate Case applications for five of its districts. These five applications have been consolidated and will be handled as a group by the Commission.

Public Participation Hearings have been scheduled for five dates and locations. These hearings are a good opportunity to speak directly to a Commission administrative law judge about any concerns with the utility's rates or service. A court reporter will be present and a transcript will be made available to the Commissioners and other parties.

Public Participation hearings will be held at:

April 17, 7pm, Pittsburgh City Hall Council Chambers, 65 Civic Avenue, Pittsburgh

April 18, 7pm, Clearlake City Hall Council Chambers, 14050 Olympic Drive, Clearlake

May 8, 7pm, Cordova Recreation and Park District, Building 1, 2197 Chase Drive, Rancho Cordova

May 9, 7pm, Santa Maria City Hall Council Chambers, 110 East Cook Street, Santa Maria

May 10, 7pm, Chaparral School Auditorium, 414 East Ojai Avenue, Ojai

May 17, 7pm, Ambrose Community Center Auditorium, 3105 Willow Pass Road, Bay Point

I hope you will be able to attend. If you have questions about participating or if you would like to send additional comments, please contact the Public Advisor's Office.
