Spoken Word Salon Going Out In Style

Poetry Matters! Following a controversial decision by Ventura Community College, local poet Gwendolyn Alley will give up hosting Spoken Word Salon at Zoey's Cafe in Ventura in order to keep her teaching job. The final reading will be held on Thursday, December 21st at 7:30 PM at Zoey's Cafe. They're going out in style, featuring Ryan Gillenwater, host of Train of Thought at the Bell Arts Factory, Roe Estep, host of the Artist's Union Gallery reading series, and Jackson Wheeler, co-editor of SOLO and host of the long-standing Arcade Poetry Series in Oxnard. Come hear outstanding local talent, participate in the open mic, enjoy great drinks, and pay tribute to a series that has featured some 200 poets in the past five years - and the remarkable woman behind it all. This is an evening not to be missed.

Thanks Robert, for sharing, you're an amazing talent!

What was the cause of the explosion (we saw fireworks) and the power outage in the east end last night?

It's a trying time for a lot of schools... Attendance at local colleges like Mooorpark is up over 100%, and just by doubling those numbers the VCCCD is trying hard to find solutions to getting teachers to stay, and to pay them what they deserve.

On a lighter note, these individuals are all amazing poets, and I wish I could make it.

Thanks, Lisa. Was great to chat with you on Radio Ojai.

Even though I write poetry, I don't actually know the inner workings of the Ojai power grid. Sorry. Common misconception.

And finally - Ryan - seems to me with the surge in enrollment community colleges would be more open to creative solutions off-campus that benefit both town and gown. But I admit I don't know the inner workings of that power grid either.

Robert -

I hear you loud and clear. When the VCCCD decides on something GOOD for a change - I'll bring the party wherever you want it.

Ryan, I don't have enough experience with the VCCCD (one watercolor class at VC for fun not really being enough) to comment on any of their other decisions. This one just struck me as fishy to say the least.
