Small town feeling
I have been really upset lately, reading a lot of what has been published here. It sounds to me like we all want a small town with a comfortable, friendly feel. This forum is open to all to speak their minds - a gift in the age of mega media. Instead of reading thoughtful, informed information and editorial pieces, what I am reading is a long series of character assassination - made by people on all sides of all the issues. If you wouldn't say something to someone if you met them in line at the post office, why say it here? Please, take advantage of the opportunity to share your opinion, to campaign for the things you believe in, teach others what you know. And keep it respectful. Make this a place people want to come read about their town, not a private battleground.

Hi Heather - I'll start the discussion here and mention that I posted "On Civility and Respect" which received zero comments, following on the heels of the heated Candidates Forum thread, which received over 80 comments.
In other words, I don't expect a big discussion, but your words will be read, and hopefully be assimilated and imprinted by The Ojai Post readers and contributors.
To Discourse and Dialogue!

Tyler, I think most appreciated your prior post, and now Heather's too. If people don't comment, I'd interpret it as a good thing: it means that despite some appearances, most believe civility and respect go without saying. Keep up the good work.

Heather: I appreciate your thoughts and the theme of your note--truly--but remember that in ALL things there is wheat, and then there is the chaff. This forum is not, and cannot possibly be, different. Still, wishing you cosmic hugs for and about your wishes. Yip!

I hope people do comment. That is the value of this forum. I also hope people comment on the issues at hand, not on the personal attributes, mothers or clothing styles of the other people commenting. This is kind of forum is possible if we all keep respect in mind when we post. Responding to the "flamers" only makes the fire burn stronger.
