From the VCS this morning.
Ojai City Councilman Joe De Vito trails by six votes in his bid for a sixth term, with the race still too close to call this morning.
With all precincts reporting but most absentee ballots still uncounted, De Vito was in fourth place in the race for three council spots. Former Councilman Steve Olsen seemed a shoo-in to return to return to the council, with 25.6 percent of the vote. Councilwoman Carol Smith was in second with 19.91 percent of the vote, challenger Leonard Klaif was third at 17.28 percent, and De Vito was in fourth at 17.16 percent.
Challengers Dennis Leary and Pete LaFollette were in fifth and sixth place, respectively. Leary had 10 percent of the vote and LaFollette had 9.64 percent.
