Am I Hot Enough?
Okay, so I'm at Movino's a couple of weeks ago and this idea pops into my head. "Wouldn't it be great to have a 'Men of Ojai' calendar? ' I start taking a poll and I ask a few handsome men would they be willing to pose nude for a charitable cause. They all answer with an enthusiastic, "Yes!" The women very quickly chime in on the idea and we end the evening with a good laugh. Then I forget about it.
Flashforward a week later. One of the, shall we say, Calendar Candidates, says, "so dude, what's going on with the calendar project?" It takes me a moment to register what he's talking about. But before I can say, "I was just kidding," he replies, "Come on man, you can do it. You've got four months." "Hmmm," I thought, "perhaps he has a point." I take a poll. Everyone gets very excited about the idea. I go home and call AttaSalina, the fabulous photographer whose Ojai Day poster last year was just stunning. She immediately says, "Let's have lunch tomorrow." And what started as a notion is now well on it's way to becoming a reality. And not a moment too soon. I ran into another CC (Calendar Candidate,)who told me he'd just been approached by someone else who is going to do a calendar. Sorry, beat you to the punch. This Saturday at Pangea Restaurant from 3 to 5 pm, there will be an open call for men who would like to be considered for the calendar. Free knosh on the patio and a panel of volunteers sheretofore known as the, 'Council of Fabulousness,' will interview the potential models. AttaSalina Dews will do the photography which promises to be spectacular. She's planning on shooting with 4X5 inch film which can be blown up to poster size. If you know her work you know that this calendar is going to be incredible. And it will start what she's titled, Majique Avant Garde, a yearly display of alternative and experimental art in Ojai.
There you have it. It's not a new idea. It's sure to ruffle some feathers. And sure to be great fun for the community. We will distribute the proceeds to children's service organizations in the valley. So, if you think you're hot enough or know someone who is, come to Pangea on Saturday afternoon.

Dude, we need a photographer from the Post to cover the event. A fine idea.

at the risk of sounding like a crotchety old man, am i the only one who thinks that the proceeds from a nude calendar going to childrens' organizations is just a tad weird? i know it'll be tasteful and not porn-like, but still...
perhaps i'm bitter because i'm not hot enough...

Ha, I was in San Diego on Saturday, but you bet I would have been there to gawk, point and stare if I had been in town! So, Demitri, who turned out?
