Organic Clothing and More in Ojai

On a tip from a friend I just visited Earth Play, a brand new store in Ojai offering clothing for a sustainable lifestyle. Organic cotton baby clothes abound. Hemp handbags, backpacks and hats line the walls. When I stopped in, Barbara was unpacking one of the many crates on the floor - they took most of their inventory to Libbey Park this weekend to the Classic Rock festival. Salim told me a litte about the genesis of the store as he followed around their 16 month old son, Renzo. Renzo picked up hangers, the telephone and a doggie bowl and carried them to the far reaches of the building.

Earth Play the store is an outgrowth of Earth Play Outdoor Education, Salim's business/passion. In looking for family-friendly space for an office, they found their current location which includes office space as well as a storefront. The couple saw the potential to expand the business into other areas of environmental consciousness and they are running with it. While today they stock predominantly clothing and accessories, they plan to expand into other tools for sustainable living - even biodegradable razors! Salim and Barbara actively seek input from customers and friends about products to stock, so go ahead and ask for whatever you need.

I was particularly excited about all the baby wear. Earth Play gives us the opportunity to indulge in buying all kinds of cute eco-friendly clothes for the little ones in our lives while supporting Ojai business-people. Stop by and say hello, Barbara and Salim are friendly and fun. And Renzo is just adorable.

I love Earth Play too. My boyfriend and I visited last weekend and really enjoyed meeting Salim, Barbara and Renzo too and the store is wonderful - it's the largest organic clothing store in the entire tri-counties that I am aware of. My business, Acorn Organics, used to have a store location here in Santa Barbara. Barbara and Salim were kind enough to create a sale rack with organic clothing items that used to be at my store. The sale rack has some great deals on it, so I recommend that folks stop by soon to have first pick!
