Dishing Ojai: Feast Bistro
From Finding Ojai, a new column that follows the food and beverage scene in Ojai, occuring on a semi-irregular basis (that is, whenever the author gets around to it).
All this recent talk about cleansing and fasting has got me famished, so I made my way over to Feast Bistro recently. Feast Bistro has appeared here on Ojai Post before. It's become a steady favorite of mine and my husband's and now Chef Susan Coulter has a new summer menu.
Among the new items on the menu is a new appetizer called, "A Trip to Greece." It's got all the wonderful flavors I remember from a visit to Santorini a few years ago: shrimp sauteed in olive oil and garlic with tomatoes and feta, tzatziki, which is yogurt with cucumber and garlic, and pureed potato with herbs, garlic and olive oil, all served with toasted pita triangles. We had it with a glass of Alma Rosa Pinot Grigio, which Sue's partner, Beryl, highly recommends. It was all so good I was soon looking for the ouzo and and screaming, "Nosthimia!" Things could have gotten out of hand if I had convinced Bill to lift me up for the chair dance, or let me fling a few dishes, but he reminded me that this is a place we would like to be allowed back. He's no fun; it's amazing the marriage has lasted this long.
It's been a little hot in the restaurant because their a/c is on the blink, so since they are usually closed on Monday, they are going to take that opportunity to install a new system and have it up and running in time for Wednesday dinner. Which is perfect because on Wednesdays, they offer a free half carafe of wine with the purchase of a dinner entree. I'd recommend the flat iron steak with the house cab.
Feast will be closed for vacation the week of August 15th, but back at it on August 22nd. Call 640-9260 for information and reservations.
