Hot Enough For Ya?
It's 1:30pm and 93° according to OjaiWeather.com, destroying the all-time record of 84° set way back on June 3rd, 1949.
In what is, I am sure, entirely unrelated news, An Inconvenient Truth, starring global warming prophet Al Gore, comes to the Century Downtown Theater in Ventura on June 16.
And a photo to cool you off, taken at the Ventura River bottom on Memorial Day. After the jump, read the weather service advisory (stay cool, drink lots of water, yadda yadda yadda)

Hot Weather Expected Across Much Of Southwestern California Today Through Monday
Warning Message:High pressure will build over the region this weekend and into early next week...bringing the hottest weather of the season thus far to portions of Southern California. Some interior locations could have near record high temperatures this weekend.
The valleys...deserts and Lower Mountain elevations could see some triple digit readings Saturday and Sunday...with many areas in the mid to upper 90s. Temperatures are expected to fall slightly Monday...but many of these areas will still have temperatures reach well into the 90s...with highs in the warmest valleys reaching around 100 in a few locations. Onshore flow and marine layer influence will keep temperatures fairly mild on the coastal plain...generally in the 70s and 80s...with a few readings near 90 well inland.
If you plan to be outside this weekend into early next week...please take precautions to protect yourself from the heat. Reduce outdoor activities if possible...at least from late morning through early evening. Wear loose fitting clothing and drink plenty of water. Take advantage of shade and air conditioning if available. Ensure that children...the elderly and pets have protection from the heat. And never...ever leave children...the elderly or pets in enclosed automobiles...even for the shortest time. Temperatures quickly rise to life-threatening levels...even if the windows are partially opened.

about 150 folks in the water hole mid-afternoon Sunday.
great to see the connection with the divine land, water, sun and creatures ...
sad to see all the beer bottles and cigarette butts and trash.

Agreed, Millennium. We parked just outside the parking lot down at the river bottom, and within 30 seconds, saw two different young adults dropping an empty beer can in the bushes on the side of the path.
Of course, the kids didn't want to leave empties in the car. I don't think there's a trash can there, but I'm sure that has been considered and probably rejected because of cost.
Does that cost outweigh the hard cost of clean-up and the soft cost of blight?

a note on An Inconvenient Truth: it's scheduled to play at a very inconvenient theater. i've called and visited Century 10, and have so far been told that they dont know if they'll even get the film at all (despite the giant cardboard display in the lobby), and won't know showtimes until they do. if/when i find out more, i'll let you all know.
