Cleansing, Part IV
I've been feeling the cleanse working me hard since the last entry. Saturday and Sunday were tough - I dropped out a few more foods and the effects were intense and mostly emotional. I felt so irritable - I wasn't any fun to be around at all. I picked fights with loved ones (not necessarily baseless, but with more intensity than I might have if I weren't cleansing) and I cried. I spoke with Chakra (local nutritional consultant extraordinaire and my cleansing coach) and we ageed that I needed to add a small amount of fats back into my diet. I've reincorporated a tablespoon of flax oil, 10 pecans, a half an avocado and salad dressing made from olive oil, and you would't believe how much better I feel. Actually, I'm back to feeling better than usual. It has highlighted for me how much a very small dietary change can alter one's physiology.
I know that I am probably the only person in Ojai sitting with a long sleeved shirt on and a fleece blanket around my shoulders with a cup of hot tea by my side. When you drop out the proteins and decrease the fats, the body temperature drops. I can't wait to try this kind of diet in the late summer heat!

This is fascinating. Is the cleanse causing excessive weight loss?

The temperature has dropped to 80 and its about to storm. In June. So if you're a little chilly, it might not just be you! Great update. PS - I'm expecting my Green Star juicer today (hopefully... :)

My cleanse is not causing much weight loss at all, although I am aware of my shape changing a little. My waist is narrower and my face is narrower, my cheekbones more prominent. This is due in part to a decrease in bloat (retained water) and to a decrease in inflammation of tissue (yes, even though I don't have pain) due to elimination of inflammatory foods such as grains, breads and cheeses.
Most people lose some weight, fairly rapidly, on a cleanse. This is not long term weight loss - it is gained back at least in part when normal eating resumes. A healthy cleanse can be a good jump start for a healthy weight loss program as it gets to body in gear to get rid of excess.
And I was cold Monday too, when others were still saying it was hot.
Thanks to all of you for staying with me, supporting me. It helps. This is both a challenging and wonderful process and it reminds me how essential it is that people have the support (even if not the cooperation or co-cleansing) of those around them.
