Now Is The Time To Study Iraq

Members of Congress announced on MARCH 15 that the United States Institute of Peace - an independent, nonpartisan, national institution established and funded by Congress since 1984 - will organize a bipartisan "Iraq Study Group" to conduct a forward-looking assessment of the situation in Iraq. They mean March 15 of 2001, right? RIGHT??

No, no...i see here that the USIP's website (www.usip.org) was updated May 01, 2006, and this information appears in the sidebar on the home page. More clicking reveals:

"In light of the importance of Iraq to United States interests and the future of the region, there is urgent need for a bipartisan, forward-looking assessment of the situation in Iraq.

At the urging of Congress, the United States Institute of Peace is organizing the bipartisan Iraq Study Group, led by co-chairs James A. Baker, III, former secretary of state and honorary chairman of the James A. Baker III Institute for Public Policy at Rice University, and Lee H. Hamilton, former congressman and director of the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars. The Iraq Study Group will conduct a forward-looking, independent assessment of the current and prospective situation on the ground in Iraq, its impact on the surrounding region, and consequences for U.S. interests.

The United States Institute of Peace is organizing the group with the support of the Center for Strategic and International Studies (www.csis.org), the Center for the Study of the Presidency (www.thepresidency.org), and the James A. Baker III Institute for Public Policy (www.bakerinstitute.org) at Rice University."

Is it just me, or should a study group examining "the strategic environment in and around Iraq, the security of Iraq and key challenges to enhancing security within the country, political developments following the elections and formation of the new government, and the economy and reconstruction" have been created BEFORE we contaminated the strategic environment, destroyed any sense of security, installed American-style dirty democracy, and initiated no-bid-fiscally-irresponsible-non-reconstruction?

Has anyone ever even HEARD of the United States Institute for Peace? Has the PENTAGON or the PRESIDENT even heard of them?

Oh yes, evan, I've heard of the US Institute of Peace. It's just another Orwellian name this administration is using to project one image while doing exactly the opposite. Any organization run by James Baker is, in itself, a joke. This is the man who represents the Saudi's against the families of the victims of 9/11. This man has manipulated the globe for many, many years and under many republican administrations. I can't think of a single positive thing this man has ever done to benefit our country or the planet. You're right we should have done this study before, but it should have been a real study, not this phony balony! This committee's job will probably be to re-write history to try to justify this awful war. A tactic this government is famous for using.

Awesome blog. Peace out until next time TabathaOster
