Michael Tenenbaum v. the incumbent
When you're not the incumbent and don't have the name recognition, you do things like this:
"WHAT: Mock debate, featuring Republican primary Congressional candidate Michael Tenenbaum and an empty podium for Elton Gallegly, Tenenbaum's opponent in the 24th District who refuses to debate. Mock debate to be followed by press conference by Tenenbaum and "Chicken Elton" (yes, the photo), who will follow Gallegly in public whenever he is in the district." Monday, May 15 at 12:00 pm, lawn in front of Ventura County Government Center, 800 S Victoria Ave, Ventura, CA 93009
PS - I have requested and am waiting for statements from both campaigns on the latest NSA phone record story and where the line is drawn between civil liberties and the so-called "War on Terror."
[UPDATE: 5/15/06, 1:55pm] From the Tenenbaum camp: "In light of a communiqué from a source inside the Gallegly camp indicating that the reclusive incumbent may finally agree to a public debate, we are calling off our press event for Monday at noon. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause." No word on the status of the chicken.

Seems fair to me. I'd love to see photos of Gag-me reacting to a chicken up in his face. He never comes out to anything besides uber-safe events stocked to the teeth with his supporters, or pat-on-the-back press conferences.
By the way, has anyone ever done a DNA test between Gallegly and Boris Yeltsin? The resemblance is striking.

T-baum is on AM 1290 right now talking with Travis Armstrong, editorial page editor of the Santa Barbara News Press. He has the hour.
