Pin the tail on the elephant: Gallegly v. Tenenbaum?
Upstart GOP congressional candidate Michael Tenenbaum is baiting beltway incumbent Elton Gallegly with a challenge to duel debate. Tenenbaum is taunting Gallegly, pointing out he attended a "wine and hors d’oeuvres event" rather than participate in a candidate forum back in March. The letter delivered by T-Baum to Gallegly on the flip.
Dear Mr. Gallegly:
The purpose of this letter is to invite you to at least one public debate - and ideally three - before voters decide on June 6th who will be the Republican nominee for the 24th Congressional District.
As you know, like I did, you signed the following pledge under section 20440 of California’s election law: “I shall conduct my campaign openly and publicly, discussing the issues as I see them...” In addition, on announcing your return to the primary race on March 15, you indicated that you “fully intend to run a vibrant campaign.” So I trust that you will welcome this invitation.
I understand that you had to miss the candidates forum hosted by the Republican Women Federated of Thousand Oaks and Westlake Village on March 24th to attend a wine and hors d’oeuvres event with your supporters in Santa Maria. In order to avoid any such scheduling conflict on your part in the future, I invite you to offer a set of weekend or evening dates on which you are available for the debates between now and the election. Our campaigns can select a moderator by mutual agreement.
I look forward to hearing from you, for I hope that you are as committed as I am to meeting our fellow Republican primary voters in a public forum for a full and fair discussion of the issues. They deserve no less.
Sincerely, Michael Tenenbaum

Just looking over my "Official Voter Information Guide" for the statewide primary now, so I'm in politic mode - it's going to be interesting! Many here in the valley will remember that Gallegly would not entertain a personal appearance at an Ojai candidate forum in '04 - he sent a staffer (Wagner loved it). I doubt he will go for a debate with T-Baum.
