Avoiding internet hoaxes, cutting down on unwanted mail
Lately I've been getting lots of alerts from concerned friends and family in my Inbox. Things like how to avoid a jury duty scam, *677 calls that can save your life and so on. Most recently, I got one about termites from Louisiana getting packaged up in bags of mulch. This website (www.snopes.com) lists all kinds of urban legends, including internet hoaxes, and explains the truth. Bookmark it and check it out before forwarding that petition, warning or story about cookies to your lists. Save them some time and help decrease confusion - don't we all have enough to think about already?

Snopes is brilliant. I got this crapola from my sister this morning: "For every person that you forward this e-mail to, Microsoft will pay you $245.00 For every person that you sent it to that forwards it on, Microsoft will pay you $243.00 and for every third person that receives it, You will be paid $241.00. Within two weeks, Microsoft will contact you via email for your mailing address and then send you a check."

What a coincidence - I just did a post on all of my fave sites. This is one I neglected to mention. It's a go-to for me when trying to set nit-wits straight.
