April Tennis Madness
This is when everything about The Ojai starts to get interesting. I think as far as collegiate sports go, The Ojai is to tennis what March Madness is to basketball.
The brackets are filling in nicely; well, for Sam Querrey they are anyway. ![]()
It takes some careful study to figure out what is really going on. My guy Brian Wilson came close in the Men's Open, but didn't quite make it to the final. Hope he still gets to stay in the free room. But Sam will be in it tomorrow and is sure to carry the trophy and the prize money home.

My first stop today, though, was to check the media board. And, as you can see, there was only one media outlet not of the traditional newsprint variety representing.
Then I made a bee-line for the main courts, where local Bozhidar Katsarov, took the prize for the second year in a row in the Boy's 16 & Under. ![]()
Bozhidar, or Bo as he is known by his fans, came to the U.S. from Bulgaria 2 years ago. He didn't know a lick of English. He goes to school at Nordhoff where he gets straight A's and trains at the Weil Tennis Academy. His goal is to play tennis for a Pac-10 school.
The weather today turned a bit chilly, so I stopped into the Tea Tent for a warm-up. I ordered a Venti Decaf Chai Latte and nearly got my media credentials taken away. It seems you can have your choice of tea with lemon wheel or cubed sugar and that's it. I graciously accepted the tea and a lemon cookie and enjoyed pleasant conversation with the tea ladies.
Tommorrow as the weather heats up, so will the competition, and I'll be there to bring you all the details.
