The Ojai Barter System
An article from Scripps Howard...if you pay your credit cards off, it may trigger a suspension of funds and a visit from Homeland Security.
...the amount they had sent in was much larger than their normal monthly payment. And if the increase hits a certain percentage higher than that normal payment, Homeland Security has to be notified. And the money doesn't move until the threat alert is lifted. Walter called television stations, the American Civil Liberties Union and me.And he went on the Internet to see what he could learn. He learned about changes in something called the Bank Privacy Act. "The more I'm on, the scarier it gets," he said. "It's scary how easily someone in Homeland Security can get permission to spy."
Barter in Ojai is the way to go. Everyone's got something someone else wants or needs. I've traded my consulting services for a massage (girlfriend got it), a holistic facial (girlfriend got it), a pet psychic, meals, a seminar and a few other unmentionables. What have you bartered for?

A pet psychic? What did that entail?
I've worked for food, housing, hardware, and smiles .. all at the helm of a keyboard.
On another note; slightly related:
Joseph bought a new truck last week. A few days later, he gets a call from the dealership saying that he was on some 'list' of people suspected of being involved in drug trafficing or money laundering, because of his middle name.
He is given a paper and number to call. A guy named 'Mike' answers, who wouldn't give out his last name due to 'security concerns', and told Joe that he couldn't be removed from the list.
The guys remark was that it did not interfere with him buying the car, so why should he care?
Anyhow it was recommended to talk with the ACLU, so we'll see where that goes.

Laura the Pet Psychic is great. Our dog Peaches was on her last legs, and Laura allowed us to communicate with her and fulfill her last wishes. She does free readings once a month at Noah's Apothecary in the Ojai Arcade.
