Thanks again, stranger

I spent the last week house sitting for a friend who has 2 dogs. Even though I have never had my own dog, I greatly enjoy canines. It seems to me that the only thing dogs like more than getting walked is escaping and going off on some adventure all by themselves.

So, when the 2 dogs I was watching last week escaped, I was able to understand and not take it personally. I walked around the neighborhood trying not to think about things like the last time a dog was run over or why there are never pictures of dogs or cats on milk cartons. After finding no sign of the critters, I mosied back to the house with my tail between my legs, stepped into the kitchen and sat down in front of the paper waiting for the phone to ring from the owner of the dogs. (The owner's phone number is on their collars.)

Another hour passed by and I was ready to hop on my motorcycle, brave the wet roads and track down my girls. I was thinking that they must be getting thirsty when I spotted some movement outside thru the corner of my eye. Stand up, walk to the door, open it and sure enough, there is some one there, he's wearing a suit jacket with his name on it. "Are these your dogs?" His hand waves toward the two dogs and I reply joyfully:

"Yes! Thanks for bringing them home, wow."

"They were running around the golf course."

"Thank you so much for taking them here, you have a great day."

He leaves before I have the grace to ask his name. My educated guess is that he works for the Ojai Valley Inn. Thanks again, stranger.

Hey Didj - welcome to The Ojai Post! Fantastic to have you aboard. Ojai is such a great dog town.

Dogs are such tricky critters! You have to love their ingenuity and I am so glad when I find stray dogs that have collars. I took a beautiful walk on Sunday through the new Land Conservancy trail off of Meyer Road (I know Tyler has posted about this very trail but I can't find it to link to it) and there was a dog. A very friendly yellow lab with a big stick and no collar. He accompanied us for our full walk and then headed off down the street when we got in our car. No collar. As I said before, I love to see dogs out on the trail, but I want to see them with their humans so that I know that they can go home safely!

Here's the info on the trail Heather mentions:
