Malchia Olshan

Ojai lost a prominent resident in Malchia Olshan on Tuesday night. Malchia died of her second battle with ovarian cancer. I don't know the details, I don't have the traditional obituary information. In fact, I haven't even spoken with Malchia in several years. I do know that she was a strong and engaging woman with a fascinating life. The thing I most wish I'd learned more about was her involvement in helping Jews escape Nazi Germany.

One in three people in the US will get cancer during their lifetime, a statistic I fear will get worse as we move forward in our hectic, polluted world. Take a moment, right now, to tell someone you care about them. Also, take some time today to do something you love.

Malchia touched many, many lives. She will be missed.

One of my very first posts on OjaiBlog was a brief obit for our neighbor, Christopher Columbus.

Thank you for sharing a bit about Malchia Olshan to the rest of Ojai.

Ojai has lost a true jewel. Namaste, my old friend.
