evan's first post
good morning, Ojai and the world!
this is my first post at ojaipost.com, so it'll be short and sweet, like my wife.
by my own standards i've been a little low on activism-fuel lately, as i've been crazy busy settling into my new semester at SBCC. The Ojai Peace Coalition's first official event of the year is happening in a couple of weeks; it's a teach-in about Iraq on March 17 from 5:30 to 8:30 in Deux Hall (across the street from Bart's Books). i'm having real trouble nailing down some speakers/presenters, but we'll make it work anyway.
The Season for Nonviolence rolls on despite the Ojai City Council's refusal to recognize or endorse it, and one of today's possible affirmations is "Today, I consciously choose each thought and activity and affirm peace and tranquility for myself and others."
i got a note under my windshield wiper yesterday from the illustrious John Palminteri (of SB's KEYT and KJEE fame)...he'd like to interview me and show my car on the tee-vee. i dont have a camera right now, or i'd just show a picture: my car's the one with the 2,000+ tally marks on one side for all the killed troops, and the ever-updating BILLIONS of dollars on the other side that the war is costing. i suppose i'll see a small attention-spike with the third anniversary approaching.
so, that's all i've got! i'm very excited to be posting here and sharing what i see and hear and think and do, and i'm equally (perhaps more) excited to read what people have to say about it! a huge thank-you to Tyler for creating this space for us.
in peace,
evan austin

Evan - welcome aboard, thanks for posting. Maybe you can give us some more background information and a link or two on The Season for Non-Violence in another post sometime.
I personally would like to see the Mayor ratify the Mayor's Climate Agreement, which basically applies the Kyoto standards on a local level. Ojai would join over 200 other cities that have signed the agreement.

Nice to put a little more info about the owner with the car. I am so glad you are doing what you are doing. More info on the teach-in please. What kind of speakers are you looking for?
