A thought on community
Without a sense of caring, there can be no sense of community - Anthony J. D'Angelo
I had never lived in a small town before Ojai. I had lived in the suburbs and exurbs of Orange County and I had lived in Los Angeles. The sense of community in this town is strong, almost overpowering for some, I imagine. Trips to the post office can take twenty minutes because of the conversations that ensue. You can pass your next door neighbor on a remote trail on a quiet Monday afternoon. Don't even get me started on the Farmer's Market. What is marvelous is that whatever energy and effort you put into the Ojai community, you get back tenfold.
Dave Lawrence of Smart Technology Enablers and myself provide free computer advice for the community every other Tuesday at the Lavender Inn, including tonight. We answer questions about computer hardware and software, doing business and marketing on the web or starting up your own blog, to name a few ways we've helped people. I've created a permanent page for Local Computer Heroes on Ojai Network, so check it out, bookmark it, and come visit sometime.
